Polish development studio Tate Multimedia announced today that they would be working on a brand new combat racer called Steel Rats. The game will be available some time in 2018 and by the looks of the announcement trailer (below), it looks to feature some deadly vehicular combat.
According to the developers, the game is an evolution of the 2.5D action arcade genre and will feature physics-based controls. Players must get into one of these powerful vehicles and then duke it out against other racers. Judging by the press release from the game, it sounds like the bikes will be fully customizable and your character will also be able to unlock new abilities as you continue to play.
“Steel Rats is set in an atmospheric, stylized, retro-future version of 40s and 50s Americana,” says Jacek Gburczyk, Tate Multimedia art director. “We’ve taken everything we love from America in that time period and mixed it up with our favorite parts of dieselpunk and steampunk influences to create something that has a wholly original feel and character.”

Steel Rats is due out in 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
