Bubsy sequel

It Looks Like More Bubsy Might Be on the Way

If you just can’t get enough of Bubsy’s furry brand of hijinks, then you’ll be happy to know that it looks like Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back won’t be the last stop of the mascot platformer’s retro revival tour. Included in the game is a tease for a possible sequel or DLC (check it out above), which shows the lovable Bobcat in a dapper suit while holding a golden gun. It’s some 007-esque imagery, so maybe Bubsy will become a secret agent. Alternatively, he might take a dark turn like Shadow the Hedgehog now that he has a gun. Let’s hope it’s the former idea.

This is good news (at least as far as I’m concerned) as Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back had some smart ideas (particularly the boss fights), and some fun mechanics (playing around with the gliding can be quite enjoyable). There is certainly something within the existing framework to work on, and a sequel (or a well-made expansion) could really take the series to the next level. In fact, I actually concluded my Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back review advocating for a sequel.

For more on the recently released platformer, check out my Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back review. Here’s why I believe it should warrant a sequel:

It’s easy to crack jokes about the return of Bubsy not turning out great, but I don’t feel that The Woolies Strike Back is a pure misfire. After all, the boss fights are filled with smart and satisfying design. If that type of level design was seen in the main game (and there was simply more to do in general), then we’d be looking at a very different game. There’s potential for Bubsy to be a relevant 2D platformer in the future, and I’d like to see Accolade take another shot at bringing the furball back to prominence.

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back is available now.
