Activision Blizzard Isn’t Opposed to the Idea of an Overwatch Movie

Activision Blizzard’s Tim Kilpin, who leads the company’s Consumer Products Group, has told MCV in a recent interview that he would “very much” like to see an Overwatch movie after the upcoming Call of Duty.

Blizzard has already been releasing a series of animated shorts for its hit multiplayer shooter and according to Kilpin, the company’s franchises extend over multiple platforms so it wouldn’t be opposed to the idea of an Overwatch movie adaptation.

We’re a platform and a portfolio, these franchises exist across multiple platforms, so it’s not just the game as a driver, but it’s linear content [movies and TV] as a way to expand the audience and expand the opportunity and then esports [too], because pull all that together and you’re talking about franchises that are frankly like no other.

Speaking about the Call of Duty movie, Kilpin said that if done well, it’ll help to expand the game’s base audience “beyond the traditional foundation” that Call of Duty appeals to. “As an M-rated game it’s a core audience and we do think there’s an opportunity to reach a little more broadly than that, if the storytelling is done well, that’s the key,” added Kilpin.
