Virtual Reality MOBA Dark Eclipse Headed to PSVR in 2018

The folks over at Sunsoft are taking on a pretty serious task as they try to create a MOBA specifically for the PlayStation VR. The game, called Dark Eclipse, is set to launch in America next year in Spring 2018, and is sure to pique the interest of any MOBA fan who might happen to own a PSVR headset.

Over at the PlayStation Blog today, Bill Hung – a Senior Programmer for Sunsoft – detailed what players can expect when it comes to checking out a MOBA in a virtual reality setting. “When we were thinking of player interaction in VR, the first thing we tried was point-and-click and point-and-teleport interactions.” he said. “While that did work, we were left thinking ‘What if the interaction was more like real life, where you can just grab things with your hands?’”

Unlike in VR shooters, in Dark Eclipse you don’t extend your arms to aim. Instead, the game is paced so you’re able to move casually, and the game is also designed to allow rest periods between matches in order for players to rest their body. Like all MOBAs, the game is designed to be competitive, and in that spirit, Dark Eclipse will have a ranked mode in Season 1. Currently, the game has over twenty characters planned for launch, split between human-like characters called Heroes and monster-like characters known as Dominators.
