Developer Reveals Jet Set Radio Visual Proof of Concept Recently Rejected By SEGA

Developer Dinosaur Games recently released a video on YouTube, showing off its proof of concept for a brand new Jet Set Radio game, which we’re told has been rejected by SEGA.

In a description accompanying the video above, the studio wrote that this proof of concept was created after Sony expressed an interest in seeing it at GDC 2017. “This was the first step towards a gameplay demo,” said Dinosaur Games. “If SEGA was interested, we were going to invest in making a functioning prototype.”

SEGA fan site, SEGABits, took to Twitter to seek further clarification, and received a response from owner Jesse Sosa. You can read the exchange below:

SEGABits: I have a question: Sony approached you, with permission from SEGA, to make this or did Sony approach you before getting the OK by SEGA to use the IP? Also this looks more like a pitch for a new game than a celebration of the franchise. Was that the idea?

Jesse Sosa: I was at GDC and showed Sony some shots of the characters. They liked them and wanted to see them in motion. So we made this video along with a presentation to gauge SEGA’s interest before investing time and money into a gameplay demo. It was for a new game. I have an idea for the combat in my head that I think would work perfectly for a game where you’re in constant motion.

SEGABits: Did SEGA say anything back to you guys regarding the pitch and why they rejected it?

Jesse Sosa: We never received any detailed information as to why they said no.

SEGABits also pointed out that company rejected a pitch for a Jet Set Radio Wii game back in 2009.
