Claire Battles Mutated William Birkin in Resident Evil 2 Remake Gameplay

Capcom has released new Resident Evil 2 Remake gameplay footage starring fan-favorite Claire Redfield at gamescom 2018. The video showcases a section from Resident Evil 2. Claire offers aid to a young girl, Sherry Birkin, in Raccoon City’s police department. Unfortunately, before the two can make a run for the exit, a mutated version of Sherry’s father, Dr. William Birkin, appears. Needless to say, this version of the doctor doesn’t seem too happy.

Check out the first gameplay footage of Claire Redfield in action below:

A bulk of the Resident Evil 2 footage sees Claire ducking and dodging blows from William Birkin’s mutated form. She gets off several shots, but whoever has hands on the controller seems to intentionally avoid shooting out Birkin’s gapping eyeball. It’s okay though, as we get a closer look at just how much the game has improved over time. The animations are nearly impeccable, and Resident Evil 2 Remake’s graphical fidelity continues to impress.

The end of the boss battle isn’t shown, but a quick cut after Claire dies showcases her and Sherry getting away. While trying to escape the precinct, the two run into Raccoon City’s Chief of Police, Brian Irons. Typical of any run-in with Irons, the chance encounter isn’t a pleasant one.

However, things could take an unexpected turn. Recently, Capcom Brand Manager Mike Lunn spoke about how some sections of Resident Evil 2 will offer “deeper experiences,” in terms of story and character moments. Of course, we won’t know exactly what this will entail until the remake hits store shelves.

Resident Evil 2 fans can take a walk down memory lane when the remake launches next year on January 25, 2019.
