Resonance of Fate Remaster Discussed by Developer

Game designer Ryosuke Nozawa of tri-Ace, most known for their Star Ocean titles, took time to discuss the visual improvements to be expected in the remaster of their title from 2010, Resonance of Fate. If you missed out, it’s an open-world JRPG that takes place on a giant, floating city. It features tactical aerial gunplay mechanics that have you launching yourself across battle spaces with hyper-agility. The remaster releases on October 18, 2018 for the PlayStation 4.

This was a challenging project for us since not only did we remaster it as an HD version, but we fully committed to taking it to 4K resolution. In order to make the pre-rendered movies 4K, we had to utilize ‘deep learning’ with our proprietary technology in order to up-rez. We also strove to maintain 60 frames per second at 4K resolution.

Textures have also been overhauled, from a character’s hair to the expressions they make as they move through the game’s world. Nozawa also shared the reemergence of Resonance of Fate‘s world while remastering the title.

…it really brought back how atmospheric the original game was, so we really made an effort to retain that by showing how the passage of time affects the backgrounds, fog effects, light sources and shadows, and reworking the camera angles. The stellar quality of the original movies really shine through with the improved resolutions.

Bug fixes and improved load times are also expected in the remaster. Tri-Ace wanted to make sure that those preparing to jump into 100 hours of gameplay will have a worthy experience of your time.

Graphical updates are looking pretty good, so far. What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments.
