New Project Judge Gameplay Shows Off the World and Combat

Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio continue to release new footage from the upcoming Project Judge. In a recent livestream featuring Producer Toshihiro Nagoshi, the studio showcased just over ten minutes of gameplay footage.

The gameplay portion of the video begins around the thirty minute mark:

The livestream’s gameplay sequence opens with a montage, apparently detailing how the story unfolds. It then segues into gameplay proper, showing protagonist Takayuki Yagami interacting with another character, before the player takes control. After Yagami exits what appears to be an apartment complex or office building, we get a glimpse of him roaming the streets. At one point he enters a store to purchase goods.

Shortly thereafter, he returns to the streets, where a fight breaks out following a brief cutscene. The combat is quick with movement, stylish in its presentation. As has been previously noted, it looks a lot like Yakuza. However, we know Yakuza this is not.

Instead of exploring the world of crime from inside a crime syndicate, Project Judge places players in the shoes of a lawyer turned detective. How this will play out from a narrative standpoint is anyone’s guess. Yet, the gameplay we’ve seen, thus far, implicates Yagami’s status as a detective is integral to the overall experience. For instance, a recent gameplay video featured the character hacking, locking picking, and interrogating suspects.

Sega hasn’t solely been keen on giving fans a look at gameplay and story, either. Not long after Project Judge’s announcement, the publisher shared a video of the opening movie. It seems this momentum won’t come to a halt anytime soon.

Project Judge releases in Asian territories on December 13, 2018. It’s slated to come West sometime in 2019.
