COD Vanguard Sequels

Call of Duty: Vanguard Writers Want to Make Two Sequels, PlayStation Players Get Exclusive Benefits Again This Year

Call of Duty: Vanguard isn’t released until next month, but discussions of a sequel always start to emerge in the days leading up to release. As reported by Video Games Chronicle, during a New York Comic Con panel, one of Vanguard’s writers revealed they are hoping players will like the game enough that they can create not one, but two more Call of Duty: Vanguard sequels.

Sledgehammer Games’ Sam Maggs said the idea behind creating Vanguard’s characters was that they could become series figureheads. If players could get behind the characters and become invested in their story, this could give them the chance to create the sequels they have in mind:

We came into this process saying, ‘how do we make the iconic CoD characters?’ because you don’t really have that in Call of Duty right now. You know when you think about a game like Halo, you think of Master Chief, but when you think of CoD there’s not really those standout characters. And so we came into this being like, ‘who could be our flagship CoD characters?’ because we want to make Vanguard 2 and Vanguard 3, because we have two more stories that we really want to tell with these characters. So, we are hoping that if people love them as much as we do, that we get to continue to tell the story of these people and make them sort of like figureheads for this era of CoD basically.

The Call of Duty: Vanguard campaign will focus on “the untold stories of multinational heroes” and feature four playable characters: Arthur Kingsley, Polina Petrova, Lucas Riggs, and Wade Jackson. These individuals will join forces as Task Force One to stop Project Phoenix, a post-war scheme led by German SS and Gestapo interrogator Hermann Wenzel Freisinger. All of these characters feature in a new story trailer that shows the conflict they’ll face across North Africa, the Eastern Front, the Western Front, and the Pacific Theater.

At the end, the video also states that PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 players will get “exclusive benefits” throughout the year, consistent with PlayStation’s long-running partnerships with Activision and Call of Duty. In the past these have included exclusive modes, bonus XP, and extra loadout slots. This will be bonus content and other benefits that won’t be available on other platforms until a year later, November 1, 2022. There are no other details on what benefits PlayStation players will get this year, but we’re sure to learn more before Call of Duty: Vanguard is released on November 5. Before that, we’re set to see what exactly what Sledgehammer and Treyarch have in store for Vanguard’s Zombies mode in a reveal due to take place at 8am PST tomorrow, October 14.
