Potentially Groundbreaking PS3 Exclusive Receives Trailer Titled “The Last of Us”

In just a few more days, a new PlayStation 3 exclusive will be announced during the VGA awards on SpikeTV. At first, it was expected to be the inevitable “Sony Super Smash Bros.” announcement, but that possibility was quickly shot down by several people in the industry. Now a trailer has been released for the secret game, and it’s more mysterious than ever before.

Update: Click here to find out about the game’s killer fungus, and here to learn when development of the game began.

See the trailer below:

Although no gameplay was shown in the above trailer, it’s easy to see why this could be a big reveal. Not only is it reminiscent of Resident Evil, but its timing couldn’t be more impeccable. In less than a month it will be 2012, a year that has garnered controversy for decades, and has inspired books and movies alike, and the trailer vividly portrays a similar grim setting with riots, fear, and chaos. What’s most surprising is that with an announcement coming in less than a week, nothing has been leaked. The past few huge announcements for the PS3, barring Twisted Metal, have been leaked beforehand. What we’re looking at is a potential blockbuster that could define Sony’s 2012 line-up.

A website is available for the secret game, and is titled www.lastofus.com. Once again, definitely an apocalyptic setting, and you can see more by visiting the site. Stay tuned for the full reveal during Spike TV’s VGA showing on December 10th, and judging by the marked date of “12.07.11” on the bottom of the site, we might learn a bit more before the awards show airs.
