Naughty Dog on The Last of Us: We’re Exploring Ideas for How we Can Continue the Story

As we centimeter closer and closer to the news regarding The Last of Us DLC and what exactly they’ve amped the Season Pass up with, Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley are bound to be featured more.

One of these instances was when Neil Druckmann, Creative Director on The Last of Us, took part in a keynote presentation at the IGDA (via Canada.com) where he discussed the future of The Last of Us:

We love these characters and we love that world, we are exploring ideas for how we can continue this story. There’s one story that’s really percolated that seems interesting, but at the same time this was a really hard project to make and it’s kind of hard to work with this bleak stuff. There’s this other idea that’s kind of an interesting diversion that we’ve been brainstorming…

If they do happen to create a sequel to The Last of Us, it will be some time down the road, with that “fucking cool” DLC being the main priority right now, something that Druckmann said they’re using to stall for time, “but once we wrap that up, we kind of have to figure that out.”

While you wait for that DLC, you can always replay The Last of Us, and if you hadn’t noticed already, Neil (via Canada.com) was very sneaky when it comes to Ellie’s character:

While working on The Last of Us, I had this secret agenda, an agenda that’s becoming less and less secret the more I talk about it. I wanted to create one of the coolest non-sexualized female video game protagonists. I felt like with The Last of Us, if we did that, we had an opportunity to change the video game industry. I know it sounds pretentious, but that was my goal.
