Pachter on PS4 & Xbox One: “The reason Sony Beats Microsoft is Solely the Price”

Earlier this week, Wedbush Securities Analyst Michael Pachter talked about how he believes the PlayStation 4 is being made at a rate of 1 million consoles per month, with Sony likely to have made 5 million PS4s by January.

Speaking at the Game Monetization USA Summit (via GI.Biz), Pachter didn’t hold back in his predictions, with the analyst talking about how he thinks the lifetime sales of the Wii U will be 30 million “or fewer”, the Xbox One will be 90 – 110 million, and the PS4 will be 100 – 120 million.

While we don’t know the exact sales number of the Xbox One up to this point, it would appear as though the PlayStation 4’s 2.1 million units as of December 1st are outpacing Microsoft’s console so far. With this lead, Pachter believes “the reason Sony beats Microsoft is solely the price. Microsoft loses the next generation unless they cut price. If Microsoft drops its price to $399, I expect the sales to be equal to the PS4.”

Pachter also made a very bold prediction by saying, “The next generation of consoles is probably the last. We expect frequent model updates instead of new consoles.” He then added, “I think the PC is going to make a comeback, the PC will be the hub of all this stuff.”

Do you think any of Pachter’s predictions are probable? How many PS4s do you think will be sold in the console’s lifetime? Let us know in the comments below.
