Naughty Dog Explains What Went Wrong With the E3 2015 Uncharted 4 Demo Last Night

To close out the PlayStation E3 2015 press conference last night, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was given a lengthy gameplay walkthrough by Game Director Bruce Straley. Unfortunately, when the demo actually began, nothing happened and they were forced to reset the entire thing to get it working properly.

On the PlayStation LiveCast today, Straley and Creative Director Neil Druckmann were interviewed by Sid Shuman. The very first topic they addressed was last night’s “interesting” demo.

After saying he “almost had a heart attack,” Straley talked about how he didn’t attend any of the dress rehearsals or run throughs and couldn’t find a DualShock 4 when he got on stage. Digging around, he finally found a lit up controller, but when Nathan appeared on-screen and he tried to move around, “nothing happened!”

Grabbing a back-up controller, nothing happened again, but that’s when the whole thing restarted.

As Straley explains, he hit the PS Button on the DualShock 4 and saw the OS of the secondary back-up unit popping up. Pointing at the secondary unit, the people behind-the-scenes realized what happened and switched to the back-up unit and “luckily he moved.”

You can check out the full LiveCast interview with Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley above, which includes another look at the gameplay from last night, the reveal that you’ll be able to use the Jeep at other points in the game, Straley talking about how the Jeep is an Uncharted Jeep that can go over mud and boulders, and more.
