Mirror’s Edge Catalyst Will Include Multiplayer Features But No Live Competitive Modes

DICE’s Patrick Bach has said that Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will include multiplayer features, but will not have any live competitive modes. In an interview with IGN during E3 2015, Bach said that the development team did discuss the inclusion of live multiplayer, but decided to separate players physically while still maintaining connection to other players.

We have asynchronous play in the multiplayer component…an asynchronous connection where your actions will affect my world.

For example, one of Faith’s objectives is to hack billboards with corporate advertisements. Any billboards we hack can also appear in our friends’ games. Bach further said:

Players do not always have time to play together at the same time, especially if they’re not in the same room. But when I play my game, your game should affect mine.

We talked about what would happen what would happen if we put other players in your world. Well, you’ll probably get a lot of a**holes. Trolling is a big part of the gaming community. Some find it very funny, others not so funny. We tried to separate it so it’s people you want in your world, but they will not be able to mess with you. They’ll be able to affect it.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is expected to release on February 23, 2016 in North America and February 25, 2016 in Europe for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For more on the game, click here.
