Well, heeellllooo there! Like many others, I've been saying this since rumors of the Konami/Kojima split surfaced. Kojima's games might not be everyone's cup of tea but the guy has talent and needs creative freedom to do whatever the heck he wants to do. For Sony to not grab the opportunity would have been silly. Let's face it, Microsoft has been striking deals left and right, and Sony needed something other than timed exclusive DLC. This news is welcome - with arms wide open. I want to see something fresh, something unique. Preferably in the horror genre.
This is certainly an exciting time for PlayStation fans everywhere. While I do think we're at least 2-4 years away from actually getting a game from this deal, just the sheer prospect of it is very interesting.
I'd honestly want Kojima to not go back to the stealth-action genre he helped define and create. Instead, I want to see what he can do with the horror genre. If P.T. was any indication, then we're in for a treat.
Who knows, though? Kojima might make a turn-based RPG, or something completely out of character that we'd all be shocked. With Kojima, expect the unexpected.
Possibly the only dark cloud in this announcement? It's that Nintendo and Microsoft gamers most likely won't be able to play whatever it is Kojima's cooking. I know we're a PlayStation-centric site and all that, but Kojima's genius is something that should be experienced by all -- regardless of platform preference.
Smart move by Sony. As for Kojima and his next game, I just want a great and unique story. No more open world please kojima.
Area of the Non-Beginners.
Honestly, I'm just glad to see him work on a new IP. Metal Gear Solid and even Zone of Enders come with tapered excitement because they are continuations of series people may or may not have played. Something fresh offers fans the opportunity to be a part of a new Kojima phenomenon. I'm hoping he sticks with third person action but in the science fiction or horror genres.
I am so excited to see something new, and I sincerely hope that Kojima retains his style of offering deep experiences that continue to offer Easter eggs, surprises, and really weird secrets.
Now that Kojima is free from the clutches of the Konami empire, I think we could see some really cool collaborations between Hideo Kojima and other great industry talent. Let's get him talking to del Toro again. Let's get him working on VR. Let's open up his creative freedom.
Kojima Productions is an independent studio now, which is perhaps the best news I've heard in a long, long time.
The thing that keeps coming to my mind is "sneaking game in VR." Virtual reality is perfect for slow and methodical experiences where being aware of your surroundings is important, and what better way to accomplish that than a stealth based game where you feel like you are actually there?
Though I always make fun of Chandler when he plays Metal Gear Solid because it's like a man filled soap opera (which I so kindly refer to as "man-game"), I'm really impressed with Hideo Kojima and the level of work and detail he puts into his games. Now that he's gone independent, I'm excited to see what he can think of next.
Phroawr! I, like most people I imagine, were smiling widely at this announcement. I'm a huge fan of Kojima's work, and the man himself, so seeing him getting picked up by Sony after the Konami debacle was wonderful.
I want to see a horror title!
