PS4 First Party Lineup in 2016 Is the Strongest Since Launch, Says PlayStation UK MD

Citing GfK data, retailers revealed to MCV that the PlayStation 4 crossed three million units sold in the UK back in January – just nine months after hitting the two million mark.

In other PS4 sales news, NPD Australia announced that it was the #1 selling home console in 2015, accounting for 59% of current-gen home console hardware unit sales and outselling its closest competitor by 84% (in terms of units). Furthermore, PS4 software was responsible for 49% of all console software sales in 2015.

Sony Australia added that December 2015 as a whole and the week of Christmas 2015 destroyed previous performance records for PlayStation in Australia.

Switching to PlayStation corporate news, Richard Keen was recently promoted to marketing director for the UK and Ireland. In a statement, he said 2016 will feature the strongest first party lineup since PS4 launch:

I am thrilled to be given an opportunity to step up into the marketing director role at such an exciting time for the business.

With PSVR launch on the horizon, the strongest first party line-up since PS4 launched and our third party exclusives better than ever, the team here are in a fantastic position to make 2016 the most successful year in PlayStation history.

Additionally, Jo Bartlett, formerly of Nintendo UK, is now head of communications at PlayStation Europe.

“With 2016 looking set to be another exciting chapter in the history of PlayStation,” she said. “I’m extremely proud and happy to be joining the talented in-house team, and look forward to building on their incredible innovation and success.”

As of January 3, worldwide PS4 sales are sitting at 35.9 million.
