Insomniac Games Discusses Sunset Overdrive’s Future

Insomniac Games has a close relationship with Sony, as they’ve developed the Ratchet & Clank series exclusively for Sony platforms in the past. That’s why Sunset Overdrive, an Xbox One exclusive open-world game, came as a surprise from the studio. The game ended up being well received by critics and consumers, yet surprisingly there hasn’t been a sequel announced.

Here’s what Ted Price had to say when asked about a possible sequel by Game Informer:

You’d have to ask Microsoft. We are passionate about that franchise, and we own it, so you may see more Sunset in the future from us. No promises, and no timeline to speak of, but it is something that represents our willingness to create unexpected experiences.

While it’s pretty baffling that Microsoft hasn’t pulled the trigger on a sequel to one of Insomniac’s best games, it’s good to know that the series has a chance at staying alive regardless. Since Insomniac owns the property, it means that PlayStation fans might get to experience the zany fun of Sunset Overdrive after all.

Insomniac Games are currently developing Spider-Man exclusively for PlayStation 4, and launched a reboot of Ratchet & Clank last year. Details are currently scarce on their current project, but more information is expected later this year.

Let us know in the comments if you’d like to see a Sunset Overdrive sequel, and if you’ve played the Xbox One exclusive original. If you did get to check it out, what did you think about the open-world action game?
