Dragon Ball FighterZ Won’t Feature Cross-Play, New Characters Will Be Revealed Soon

Dragon Ball FighterZ producer, Tomoko Hiroki, has confirmed to ShonenGames in an interview that the game won’t offer cross-play – not even between PlayStation 4 and PC. Although he didn’t reveal why, it’s quite possible that his reasons are similar to Katsuhiro Harada’s. The Tekken 7 producer cited first-party policies and platform security issues between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as the prime reason for not adding cross-play in a multiplatform title.

Elsewhere in the interview, Hiroki explained why there’s a “Z” in the game’s title.

Well basically for Dragon Ball FighterZ, we put in the Z because Z is the last letter of the alphabet, so we just wanted to be able to reach the “last” or “ultimate” point, and as you can probably imagine the Z has a really strong connection with Dragon Ball in general. As far as the pronunciation, it is pronounced Dragon Ball FighterZ, so just pronounce it like you would with an S.

In related news, Hiroki announced during EVO 2017 that he’ll be revealing two new characters for the game via Japanese publication V Jump, the next issue of which releases on July 21.

We’ll update our readers when we have more info. In the meantime, you can check out 50 minutes of gameplay here.
