The Next Witcher Game Would Not Be Titled The Witcher 4

Everyone’s enthusiasm for CD Projekt RED’s forthcoming title, Cyberpunk 2077, seems through the roof. The more light shed on its futuristic setting and story, the more this excitement builds. Yet, anticipation for another project continues to stir anticipation, as well. The studio has another game in the pipeline; however, what it is remains a mystery. Hopes are high it marks a return to the world of the Witcher. Even Doug Cockle, voice of Geralt of Rivia, has expressed his desire to see the series receive a new entry, preferably with Ciri as the lead. But what title would such a hypothetical fourth iteration bear? The Witcher 4, perhaps? No, says studio CEO Adam Kiciński.

In an interview with Bankier.pl, Kiciński states that the team’s focus is primarily on Cyberpunk 2077. But “there will come a time” when they are able to speak freely about the secret game. While Kiciński wouldn’t divulge specifics, he did offer some hope to the possibility that we haven’t seen the last of CD Projekt’s beloved fantasy franchise. The CEO responded with the following when asked, “will it be a Witcher 4?”:

The first three Witchers were by definition a trilogy, so we simply could not name the next game The Witcher 4. This does not mean, of course, that we will leave the world of The Witcher, created by us for over a dozen years. The Witcher is one of two franchises on which to build in the future activities of the company. Today, unfortunately, I can not reveal anything more.

His answer, while vague with regards to whether a new Witcher is in development, suggests that whatever form the next entry takes won’t see Geralt in the driver’s seat. It’s no secret that, as far as CD Projekt RED is concerned, Geralt’s story is complete. Does this mean Ciri takes the helm next? And, if so, how would the various endings of The Witcher 3 receive successful implementation? Hopefully, we will eventually discover this for ourselves.
