Learn More About Spidey’s Relationships in Marvel’s Spider-Man

J. Jonah Jameson, editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle, never misses an opportunity to express his disdain for Spider-Man. In a new trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man, Jameson refuses to withhold any punches. Not only does he question the hero’s methods, he also blames Spider-Man for Manhattan’s rising crime rate and expresses concern that even his allies are in danger. Clearly, Jameson isn’t a fan.

Check out the brand-new trailer below:

At its core, the trailer acts as a who’s who for Marvel’s Spider-Man. According to J. Jonah Jameson, “nutcases” are overrunning the city because of Spider-Man’s costumed antics. Electro, Vulture, and the Rhino are all called out. Even the notorious rogue Doc Ock earns a clever tease.

A common criticism often leveled at superheroes is that their most notorious foes wouldn’t exist were it not for the superheroes themselves. Batman essentially creates the Joker. Would metahumans and super-powered aliens concern themselves with Metropolis if Superman hadn’t arrived? It’s debatable. In the case of Spider-Man, Jameson certainly believes Manhattan would only have to deal with “two-bit” thugs if Spider-Man allowed the cops to do their jobs.

But the villains are not the only folks Jameson believes Spider-Man should take responsibility for. People such as Police Chief Yuri Watanabe are repeatedly thrust in the line of fire, typically due to their association with the hero. The trailer shows a quick montage of Mary Jane Watson, Miles Morales, and Aunt May, all of whom are likely to experience danger for their close proximity to Spider-Man as well.

Is Spider-Man as a potential public menace a reasonable assessment? Players can determine this for themselves when Marvel’s Spider-Man launches on the PlayStation 4 on September 7, 2018. Since the game may take upwards of 20 hours to complete, there will be plenty of content from which to judge.
