GameStop Pushes Past Competitors

Gamasutra has compiled NPD information on GameStop, only to find out a surprising fact. GameStop now controls 21% of the U.S. game sales market in new game and console sales. 

And to top that off, GameStop has 6200 outlets spread across the globe. The company started off as Babbages, a small retailer based in Texas. But through numerous mergers and acquisitions of companies like Funco and Electronics Boutique, it has become the most popular videogame retail chain in the world.¬†Though it makes most of its profit off used game sales, Best Buy and other retailers are looking to end GameStop’s monopoly in the used games market.
