Ark: Survival Evolved PS4 Developer Is Hoping to Push it Towards 60fps

In an interview with PSU, Abstraction Games Lead Programmer Wilco talked about how they’re trying to push the PlayStation 4 version of Ark: Survival Evolved to run at 60 frames-per-second, and how PS4 Pro owners will find a smoother experience when playing the newly released title:

Ark: Survival Evolved isn’t specifically tailored for PS4 Pro, so it doesn’t have 4K support, but it will run more smoothly. [Original developer] Studio Wildcard, however, has added the options to enhance graphics in the menu system.

The Xbox One version was averaging 25 frames-per-second, but the PS4 has slightly better performance than the Xbox One in terms of graphics, so there’s more leeway to invest some time into making it better, with the hope of pushing towards 60fps. In theory that should be doable, and that’s the goal. We’ve also worked with Studio Wildcard to help increase performance on Xbox One since.

As part of a stream last month, it was revealed that Ark was running at 40fps – 60fps on PS4 Pro.

Studio Wildcard and Abstraction Games are hoping to release a patch for Ark on either Friday or Saturday that adds a 1080p option for PS4 Pro owners. “Looks super sharp, runs nice & fast with it too,” Studio Wildcard says about Ark at 1080p on PS4 Pro.

The work-in-progress version of Ark: Survival Evolved released this week on PS4, and the developers will continue to release new updates in the coming months. They plan to reach the content complete state in spring 2017.
