Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Final Fantasy VII Remake Producer Yoshinori Kitase Talks Rumors and Past Final Fantasy Games

It’s been quite some time since we’ve gotten new information on the Final Fantasy VII PS4 remake. Luckily, Final Fantasy VII remake producer Yoshinori Kitase just did a fantastic interview with EDAMAME Arcade Channel. While he didn’t talk a ton about the upcoming remake, he did talk plenty about the iconic Final Fantasy title he’s handling, and other past entries in the games.

He also tackled some popular Final Fantasy rumors such as whether or not Squall is dead (it’s a “no”), and whether or not Aerith can be revived. “I have heard there were unofficial ways to have Aerith in your party,” said Kitase. “But officially there is no way to bring her back to life.” The producer also dashed the hopes of fans that want the series to return to its turn-based roots saying it’s unlikely that the series will return to it in a main installment.

Here are some other highlights from the interview:

On whether or not Final Fantasy VIII will get a PlayStation 4 port like the other PlayStation titles Final Fantasy VII and IX:

“That’s a difficult question. I’m saying no, but not ruling it out in the future.”

Kitase also revealed that both Final Fantasy VII and X take place in the same world:

“A little. There is a character in FFX called Shinra. The scenario writer suggest that he might have something to do with the Shinra Company in FFVII.”

He also dispelled rumors that Jenova from Final Fantasy VII and Lavos from Chrono Trigger are the same species:

“They aren’t but both games were worked on at the same time and enemies from space was a trend at the time. It’s false, but they are loosely based on each other.”

The full interview is filled with fascinating bits of Final Fantasy lore, so make sure to check it out!
