Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Exceeds 1 Million Racers

In December, fans had a chance to taste what Polyphony Digital‘s latest driving simulator had to offer. Sony has revealed that since its launch last month, the Gran Turismo 5 time trial demo has been downloaded over 1 million times.

Over one million gamers across Europe have downloaded the Gran Turismo Time Trial since its launch on December 17th. The time trial offered was released to find contestants for this year’s GT Academy. The 20 fans who manage to achieve the best lap times in the demo will be eligible to race a race-tuned Nissan 370z on a racing track this year, and the fan who performs the best with the Nissan will sign a real racing contract.

Polyphony Digital boss, Kazunori Yamauchi explained:

We created the Time Trial purely as the mechanic to run the first phase of GT Academy 2010. The massive interest is testament to the strong GT Academy concept that offers the chance to make a dream come true. But it also clearly demonstrates the popularity of Gran Turismo.

If you still fancy a chance of winning, there is still time to enter the academy as the time trial will end on 24th January. Start your engines!
