Housemarque Celebrates Super Stardust HD’s 4-year Anniversary with Competition

Believe it or not, it’s been four years since the PlayStation Network met Super Stardust HD, a title that would remain as one of the greatest games available through the online store for years to come. The HD remake of the 1994 hit, Super Stardust, was an absolutely thrilling and exceptionally challenging release that showed the world that arcade-style games are far from dead. SSHD was recently made available for free download during Sony’s Welcome Back program, and thousands of players were introduced to the game’s awesome sci-fi visuals and blood-pressure raising gameplay just in time for its anniversary.

In celebration of Super Stardust HD‘s 4-year anniversary, Housemarque is hosting a competition that anyone can take part of (granted they own the game). All you have to do is play the Coventina planet, and do your best to achieve a high score. A handful of players will be rewarded based on the following criteria:

  • Top-5 players on July’s PSN high score list win the Grand Prize!
  • 5 randomly chosen players in Top-2000 on July’s PSN high score list win a unique Super Stardust hoodie!
  • The Grand Prize includes a 3D crystal shaped into the famous Super Stardust HD ship, an autographed poster, and even an SSHD hoodie. Players have from July 1st until July 29th to achieve their best score on Coventina, and winners will be announced just days later.

Coventina is the second planet in SSHD, and is available once you complete the first planet, which takes a bit of practice. Coventina is full of gold rocks and tons of very quick, ice-based enemies, so have your Gold Melter and Ice Splitter ready!

If you decide you’d like to compete in this competition, be sure to let us know how you do in the comments below, and in the meantime have a look at the cool prizes:
