Uncharted Comic-Con Panel Sheds Light on the Franchise’s Beginnings

Naughty Dog pulled out the big guns at this year’s Comic-Con.  Their Uncharted 3 panel, titled “Developing Interactive Entertainment: The Performance Capture Techniques of the Uncharted Franchise and Today’s Film Industry,” revealed all sorts of interesting bits information regarding the development of the series.  On top of that, the famous Nolan North (Nathan Drake), Emily Rose (Elena Fisher), Richard McGonagle (Sully) and writer Amy Hennig were all in attendance.

Nolan North has had such an incredible experience voice acting the character of Nathan Drake that he decided to write a book detailing his experiences.  The book will be called Drake’s Journal and is said to feel “more like a yearbook” than a novel.  Drakes Journal is expected to ship alongside the game on November 1st.

Another surprising tidbit of information surrounds the origins of Elena Fisher, who was originally planned to be a Spanish woman called Elena Vargas.  In addition, Hennig revealed that she was to be voiced by none other than Claudia Black, the voice actor who plays Chloe Frazer.

Hennig also went on to explain that the resemblance between each character and their corresponding voice actor was no coincidence.  “We sent concepts to the actors when they were auditioning.  That was part of what attracted them to the roles.”  After seeing the concept art for Elena, Emily Rose said she immediately thought, “‘This is me. I need to do this. I know her’.”

There’s no doubt that the depth to each of these characters is one of the major selling points for the franchise.  Look forward to learning more about each of them as the game’s November release date draws near.
