Shadows of the Damned Developer Speaks of Disappointment

Suda51, the co-developer of Shadows of the Damned and CEO of its studio Grasshopper Manufacture, has expressed his disappointment regarding the action-adventure game’s retail performance.

Speaking to Eurogamer, the developer – known for his work on unique titles like No More Heroes and Killer 7 – explained:

Of course we always wish to have a big hit, but at the same time – not just in Japan, but worldwide – I think it’s really difficult to be successful with a new IP. You really need an extraordinary amount of support to have a new franchise be successful. Unfortunately we couldn’t really do as well as we hoped for.

Suda also had this to say when asked what he’d do differently with the title:

I had lots of ideas for online,” he insisted. “If I could do it over again I would definitely include online features. Every title you release you always want to do more and more but I think it is also our job as a developer to set up an environment where we can actually create what we want to do.

Shadows of the Damned had a difficult time at retail only managing to sell a disappointing 24,000 copies during the month after its launch.
