Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 To Feature New Physics & Graphics Engine

Are you ready for more Sonic? If so, luckily Sega is too, and is preparing to deliver another helping of the blue blur in 2012 with the reveal of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2, the second downloadable Sonic title in a planned quadrilogy.

Details surrounding Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 are sparse but as Sega revealed in an interview with GameSpot, Episode 4 will feature a brand new physics engine along with a new graphics engine. Episode 2 also marks the return of Sonic’s faithful sidekick Tails and his longtime nemesis Metal Sonic. According to Sega, Episode 2’s physics will feel a lot closer to the original genesis games.

The last downloadable release, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, was released on the PlayStation Network in October of 2010. It retails for $15.00 but has been a part of a few Sega themed sales.

In our review of Sonic 4 Episode 1 we praised the beautiful graphics but felt that the levels were essentially carbon copies of previously established classics. Let’s hope that this new graphics engine can wow us all over again and that the Sonic Team adds some twists and turns to the level design if they choose to revisit older stages.

Sonic 4 Episode 2 will be released at some point in 2012.
