Child’s Play, the charity founded by Penny-Arcade, announced that they raised over 3 million dollars during 2011, the exact total clocking in at $3,512,345. This is a large increase over last year’s total of 2.2 million dollars.
Project manager for Child’s Play, Jamie Dillon, posted on the charity’s official blog that the amount of growth they experienced this year can be attributed to the various independent fundraisers held in support of Child’s Play. Such fund raiders include their first annual golf tournament and LoadingRadyRun’s annual 24 hour Desert Bus for Hope livestream.
On the blog she shared the following:
Let that sink in for a second. Over three and a half million dollars going to hospitals worldwide to ease the suffering of kids when they need it most. All because you, as a community, came together to make a difference. And what a difference it is.
Child’s Play was founded in 2003. Their stated goal is to provide toys and games to disadvantaged and ill children through more than 70 hospitals nationwide. Each hospital sets up a “wish list” of gifts, games and toys for their children. Those interested in donating can chose to send of these gifts or make a cash donation directly to their chosen hospital or directly to Child’s Play.
