Metal Gear Online Closing June 12th

Konami has announced that the online game that came with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Online, will be going offline after four years of service.

On the four-year anniversary of the game’s release, June 12th, service for Metal Gear Online will be brought to a close. Two events will precede the closure of the game, though:

  • On March 21st, the Metal Gear Online shop will be brought to a close.
  • On April 24th, expansion packs and preset codec message appeal packs will be available for free. Registration for new player characters won’t be available during that time. Reward shop equipment will be available for free, with the exception of “non-sale” items.

Metal Gear Online has remained PlayStation 3 exclusive, although a version of MGO called Metal Gear Arcade was brought to arcades in Japan.
