Mass Effect 3 Ships 3.5 Million Worldwide, Sells 890,000 in first 24 Hours in North America

Mass Effect 3 is hands down the biggest release of the year thus far, and EA’s John Riccitiello has the numbers to prove it. With 3.5 million copies of the game shipped worldwide and an impressive 890,000 copies sold to North Americans in the first day, it’s fair to say that the game is off to an incredible start.

The EA boss shared these numbers at a Wedbush Technology Media and Telecommunications Conference, expressing the publisher’s confidence in the game’s success, saying, “we anticipated it doing well, so we’re happy”.

Interestingly enough, the controversial day-one downloadable content was also a major hit with gamers, as a whopping 40 percent of consumers who bought Mass Effect 3 also went ahead and got the “From Ashes” DLC codes. “The tie ratio at the register is the highest in their history,” Riccitiello said.

Mass Effect 3 brings the long awaited conclusion to the story of Commander Shepard and is now available in retailers worldwide. Be sure to read our review of the game to find out if it deserves all the sales.
