Following the custom Xbox 360 controller Modjunkiez designed for our sister site, GameRevolution, they set out to create a controller for PlayStation LifeStyle, and the beautiful specimen you’ll find in the images showed up at my doorstep shortly after.
It’s shiny, it’s precious, but just because it looks like something fit for a museum, you don’t at all have to be gentle with it. Using a ‘highly classified’ application process, a special vinyl is fitted to the contours of a standard DualShock 3 controller, then a “nano-layer” of plastic coating is added for durability’s sake. This means it can withstand even the longest of gaming sessions, sweaty hands, or other like abuse, all without smudging the design, or peeling the vinyl back off the controller.
As you can see even the buttons and D-pad have been customized—something that Modjunkiez specializes in is customizing video game console controllers with various parts, rapid fire buttons, or just the appearance and aesthetics. They also offer things like LEDs and replacement analog sticks for all of your do-it-yourselfers out there.
Aside from the durability, all I can speak about is the design, which tends to speak for itself. Just look at the pictures for yourself and judge—it’s a nice-looking controller. At $99, it’s definitely a complete luxury item, but a portion of the proceeds of each PSLS controller sold goes to a charity of our choice, so there’s that. You can purchase one here or go to Modjunkiez.com.
But special for all of the PSLS readers, Modjunkiez is teaming up with us to give one of these custom PSLS DualShock 3 controllers to one lucky reader. Simply leave a comment below for an entry, and get a second entry into the giveaway by retweeting the following tweet:
