PlayStation Vita Pets Coming in 2014, Debut Gameplay Trailer Features Talking Dogs

It’s probably not the potential PlayStation Vita sales juggernaut you were hoping for, but Sony and developer Spiral House have announced that PlayStation Vita Pets will be released in 2014. That release date is currently only confirmed for Europe, but we will be hearing more about this at gamescom, so hopefully they give us a North American window then as well.

Now, if you know anything about NintenDogs, PlayStation Vita Pets will seem quite familiar as you start out by choosing from four different puppies, each with their own personality, sense of humor, and character traits.

Kevin Oxland, Creative Director, then explained what happens next:

Together you and your new friend will be able to do all the things you would do with a real dog or in any other pet sim but in PlayStation Vita Pets we allow you to go further! Once you’ve gotten to know each other and learned the skills needed to venture outside the safety of your home you’ll be able to embark (no pun intended) on the adventure of Castlewood Island!

In something I personally find oddly disturbing, the dogs talk, which you can see aplenty in the debut trailer:

Expect more information about the game in the coming months, including details about the AR features and the island, which includes locations like a massive forest, mines, graveyards, and even a castle.

The most important question is: What pet name could we give this that would be in the same vein as NintenDogs? PlayStay!-Tion? Let us know your best creations in the comments below.
