Ubisoft’s Online Pass Elimination “Won’t be Instituted Retroactively”

When Ubisoft announced that they would be eliminating their Online Pass program for all future games, and making the Uplay Passport for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag free, it was a move appreciated by all.

In the comments section of the Ubi Blog announcement post, Communications Manager Gary Steinman said, “The Uplay Passport will not be a part of any future Ubisoft games. This won’t be instituted retroactively.”

So, unlike EA who made the online pass free for titles both new and old, Ubisoft is sticking with the pass for all of their previous games. It is important to note that EA originally had no plans to eliminate the online pass for previous titles, before changing their mind shortly after.

We’ll let you know if Ubisoft ever decides to get rid of the online pass for their previous titles.
