Here’s a rundown of some features you can expect with the Gold Wireless Headset:
- 7.1 virtual surround sound
- Custom audio modes via the new Headset Companion App
- Hidden noise cancelling microphone
- Rechargeable battery delivering 8 hours of straight gameplay

Speaking of the Headset Companion App (also available through an update to the Pulse Manager app on PS3), it will be out later this month for free. Compatible with the Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0 and the Pulse Wireless Stereo Headsets on PS4 and PS3, this app allows you to access custom sound modes for games, music, and movies, with the first PS4 sound mode for the app being inFamous: Second Son, with the game launching next month.
John Koller, VP of Marketing at SCEA, had this to say about the new headset and PS4 firmware update:
Audio is a critical part of the overall gaming experience, and because our headsets are made for PlayStation gamers, by gamers, you’ll truly hear the action the way it was meant to sound. We’re also excited to introduce our new Gold Wireless Headset, which provides the actual audio experience that game developers created.
