Bloober Team Responds to Negative Basement Crawl Reviews

Earlier today we released our review of Bloober Team’s Basment Crawl. While I saw some potential in the frantic Bomberman-esque gameplay, my experience was hindered by the lack of any significant content in the game and glitches that impacted the minimal experience available.

Bloober Team quickly responded to the negative reviews with a letter to players of the game. In it, they detail that the glitches encountered by many reviewers were not present when the game went through the final QA stages. They also discuss making Basement Crawl’s content offering more robust by adding in new modes, maps, and features following the release of the initial patch to iron out its bugs. There is currently no timeframe for these updates, other than “as fast as possible,” so we will have to wait to see if it can turn over a new leaf. You can read the full letter from Bloober Team below:

An open letter to all gamers who bought Basement Crawl:

Basement Crawl was released on the 25th February. Since launch, we have encountered several unexpected issues with the Global Multiplayer mode, including many players who have experienced problems with connecting to games, lag and spawning issues, among other glitches. We are very sorry that players have had to deal with these issues and it is not what any of us were expecting. We can assure you we will be fixing these issues and issuing an update in the very near future.

In our pre-release testing and QA process, we didn’t encounter these issues.  They emerged only after the game went public. Had we known about these issues, we would have delayed the release further until all known bugs were fixed.

With that said, as a whole, the community has been patient and understanding and we want to thank you for that.

We have been listening carefully to the community and what you have to say about the game, and we want to assure you that we will be fixing all outstanding bugs.  We have received and continue to receive great feedback from players that has helped us identify the issues and we will be fixing as fast as possible.

Once we have the game we released functioning as it should, we will be implementing several additional features that have been suggested by fans, so we can be sure we deliver the game players want. More than a few people have suggested that the game is missing a single-player mode and a proper tutorial, and we will address both of those issues.

On top of this, in an effort to thank you for your patience, we will be adding new game modes, including Elimination (each player only has several respawns) and Rounds (last man standing wins given round, the player with most rounds won will win whole match); as well as more maps and small new features that will increase the scope of the game.

We want to make sure that all of you know that we are listening to what you have to say, that we are working our hardest to give you a game that is what you, the players, want, and that we truly appreciate your patience as we work though these issues. Our goal is to produce a game that we are proud to release.

In order for us to do this, if you have already purchased the game and are experiencing bugs please let us know at:support@basementcrawl.com. This will help us ensure that we have eliminated all of the bugs completely.

After our second update, we will continue to support the game and the players by adding more features and expanding the game greatly.

We will continue to keep in touch with you with updates on our progress and to ensure that we are getting feedback from you all.

Piotr Bielatowicz – Vice President, Bloober Team

We have added an update to our review to disclose this letter, but we did not change the score and have kept the original text intact to reflect our views of the title upon its initial release. What do you think of Bloober Team’s quick response to the negative reviews on Basement Crawl?
