SteamWorld Heist Announced, is a Follow-Up to SteamWorld Dig

Image & Form, the team behind SteamWorld Dig, have announced SteamWorld Heist, the next game in the SteamWorld franchise. As of right now, it is set for release in spring 2015, but platforms and a price have yet to be determined. If Heist is anything like Dig though, it will eventually come to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.

A game about space adventures and survival that takes place “some time” after SteamWorld Dig following “a cataclysmic event has shattered the planet and forced its population into steam-driven spaceships,” SteamWorld Heist places you as the captain of a team of robots who scavenge the remains of a destroyed world. Boarding enemy ships to stay in business, the gameplay will feature turn-based combat.

After CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson said Heist will “be full of surprises and probably the best game ever,”

But it’s set in the same universe and the cowbots are still the heroes. A lot has happened to SteamWorld since then, and we want to give you a game that is radically different. Partly because we really wanted to make a turn-based strategy game, but also because it felt like a clever move. The obvious follow-up would’ve been Dig 2, but we wanted to surprise you instead.

If Image & Form decides to bring SteamWorld Heist to PlayStation, we’ll let you know.
