FIFA 15 Takes Home #1 Spot in the UK During 2014, Physical Video Game Sales Drop 6.6% Year-on-Year

Now that the year is over, the Entertainment Retailer’s Association has compiled sales data for all of 2014 in the UK, which is based off Gfk Chart-Track statistics and IHS estimates.

In terms of numbers, video game software sales in the UK rose by 7.5% to £2.45 billion last year. This breaks down with physical video game sales dropping 6.6% year-on-year to £948.5 million, while digital games rose 18.8% to £1.5 billion.

Switching to actual retail sales for entertainment products, the movie Frozen sold 4.012 million copies to be the #1 seller in stores during 2014, with FIFA 15 in 2nd at 2.66 million copies sold.

In total, there were five video games in the UK top 20 best-selling video games, movies, and albums of 2014, which you can see below:

  1. FIFA 15 – 2,663,296 units sold
  2. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – 1,837,025 units sold
  3. Grand Theft Auto V – 1,341,472 units sold
  4. Destiny – 937,235 units sold
  5. Watch Dogs – 808,799 units sold
