Mojang: There’s Been “No Discussions” About Minecraft 2

With Minecraft being the sales juggernaut as it is, one would expect that Minecraft 2 will make its way at some point, right? Well, apparently, that’s not happening soon.

In an interview, Mojang CEO Jonas Martensson confirmed that Minecraft 2 is a long way off — if it ever happens at all. While he couldn’t say that Minecraft 2 is never happening, he doesn’t see it in the “foreseeable future.”

First of all, there’s been no discussions about Minecraft 2 at the moment…I can’t promise forever there’ll never be a Minecraft 2, but for the foreseeable future there won’t be.

If you think Mojang being bought by Microsoft will change things, you’re mistaken, as studio GM Matt Booty reveals that Minecraft 2 conversations never even occurred at Microsoft.

There was never, even within Microsoft, a conversation about a Minecraft 2 just because it’s never how the game has been developed and even in the philosophy that the company has taken with Windows 10 where this is something that gets updated often…The way to think about it is more to do with continual updates and a continual process.

With how the game has evolved since its release, do players even need a Minecraft 2? And do you think it will come out to PlayStation platforms if it ever sees the light of day now that Mojang is owned by Microsoft?
