In a big blog post on their website regarding the Shovel Knight retail version, developer Yacht Club Games announced that it’s been delayed by a few weeks and will now launch on October 30 in Europe and November 3 in North America for PlayStation 4, Wii U, and 3DS.
The reason for the delay has to do with wanting to have the Plague of Shadows update available on the disc:
The final few steps of the Plague of Shadows content took a little longer than expected, but it was important to us that this update to be on the disc/cart right out of the box! Unfortunately that meant we had to push back the date just a little a bit. Luckily, all of the teams throughout the various console manufacturing steps have been really helpful in reducing this knock-on delay as much as possible.
Talking about a couple other versions of Shovel Knight, the Xbox One retail release has been cancelled due to “publishing policies on that platform that are totally beyond our control,” while the PlayStation Vita retail release isn’t happening this holiday, but Yacht Club Games is “still working our hardest to make it possible!”
As for the versions that will be available, the price of Shovel Knight has been raised from $19.99 to $24.99, though retailers should honor the original price if you’ve pre-ordered. According to Yacht Club, the price was changed because “some retailers ran into trouble with limited space to show off their wares, and the rules in place about where games with certain prices are displayed. We didn’t want our ‘bargain priced’ game to go straight to the bargain bin of obscurity, so we had to raise the price.”
While they admit it’s a bit redundant, as the soundtrack is pay what you want online, the physical version of Shovel Knight includes a free soundtrack download.
Asked if there will be other Boss campaigns besides Plague Knight, Yacht Club said, “Future updates will bring us: King Knight, Specter Knight, Body Swap, and Battle Mode!”
