Tales of Berseria Announced for 2016 Release on PS4 & PC in North America, Europe

A couple of months after releasing Tales of Zestiria to those in the West, Bandai Namco announced today that Tales of Berseria is headed to PlayStation 4 in 2016 in North America and Europe.

The first Tales of game to have a female character as its singular main protagonist, here’s what you need to know about Tales of Berseria:

In Tales of Berseria players embark on a journey as they assume the role of Velvet, a young woman whose once gentle nature has been replaced and overcome with a festering anger and hatred after a traumatic experience three years prior to the events within Tales of Berseria imbued her left hand with a special ability. Velvet will visit a wide range of breathtaking environments as she travels the world in an all-new adventure developed by the celebrated team behind the Tales of series. Along her journey, Velvet will meet a whole cast of characters, including a young boy named Laphicet. If Velvet is the embodiment of “darkness,” then Laphicet is created in the image of “light” and will be an important ally to Velvet.

As Bandai Namco explained on the Tales of Blog, Tales of Berseria’s battle system has evolved. Based on the series’ Linear Motion Battle System, the default control is free run, you can rotate the camera freely, and multiple artes can be assigned to any of the four face buttons, allowing you to link them together in attack combinations.

Since Bandai Namco didn’t mention it, don’t expect the PlayStation 3 version of Tales of Berseria to release outside of Japan.

So far, the Tales of series has sold over 16 million copies worldwide.

We attended Jump Festa, so expect interviews and more from the event this week.
