In development for two years, Pirates: Treasure Hunters is coming to PlayStation 4 “in a few weeks,” with developer Virtual Toys currently accepting beta sign-ups in Europe.
A free-to-play MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), Pirates: Treasure Hunters was “created to make you feel as though you are the legendary pirate you’ve always dreamed of.” As Creative Director Jesus Iglesias adds, “It’s about heroes and legendary warriors that fight for their fate, glory and for the gold in the remote and wild seas. We want you to feel that excitement and become part of our universe.”
Calling it the first MOBA e-sports game specifically created for PS4, Iglesias says Pirates will feature fast-paced gameplay, rather than pointing and clicking:
You will find this game to be a super enjoyable and competitive online experience. We’ve built a number of different, original maps and game modes where you can compete and play cooperatively with your friends, and there’s an amazing league system that supports full e-sports competition.
You’ll also find many heroes to play with, vehicles, and pirate ships to use during sea battles.
