April 2016 Digital Sales Report: Dark Souls 3 Enters the Console Chart at #5

In SuperData’s April 2016 worldwide digital games market report, they reveal that overall sales are up 5% year-over-year, reaching $6.2 billion. Looking at individual categories, digital console saw the fastest growth of any segment in revenue (up 23%) and audience (up 15%).

Here’s the top five grossing digital console games by revenue for April 2016, which includes one new release:

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
  2. FIFA 16
  3. The Division
  4. Grand Theft Auto V
  5. Dark Souls 3

SuperData didn’t offer much further data into the console segment, but they did point out how Dark Souls 3 beat expectations on PC, earning $45 million (nearly $18 million more than console revenue). “This is the first Dark Souls title to perform better on PC than console, demonstrating that both Bandai Namco and From Software put the lessons learned from Dark Souls I and II to good use,” SuperData says.

Dark Souls 3 was the #1 retail game in the United States for April 2016, and it’s shipped over three million copies worldwide.

Do you think Uncharted 4 will be #1 in May?
