Yakuza 6 and Football Manager 2017 Help to Boost SEGA’s Net Sales

Like Square Enix, SEGA has released its financial report for the nine-month period ended December 31, 2016, reporting an increase in net sales and income.

In terms of packaged games, SEGA reported an increase in sales, thanks in part to Football Manager 2017 and Ryu ga Gotoku 6: Inochi no Uta, which is headed to the West as Yakuza 6 in 2018. The Entertainment Contents segment, which includes video games, also saw favorable performance from Phantasy Star Online 2, which celebrated its fourth anniversary.

“With regard to the packaged game software market, expectations are rising for future expansion of the market due to the penetration of current generation hardware of home video game console,” reads the report.

SEGA also benefited from increased sales of titles for smart devices. Overall, the Entertainment Contents segment saw net sales of ¥155,440 million (an increase of 13.7 percent from the same period last year) and operating income of ¥15,387 million (an increase of 449.4 percent from the same time in the previous year).
