E3 2017 Indie Games to Watch
-
Indie Games to Look Out for at E3 2017
-
Away: Journey to the Unexpected
Away: Journey to the Unexpected is a first-person adventure game that'll have players negotiating with characters to recruit them to their team a la Shin Megami Tensei, and battling foes with a stick. Yes, a stick. It's weird in all of the right ways, which earns it a spot on our list.
-
Fe
Zoink Games is one of Sweden's most talented developers, and our best known for their work on humorous titles such as Stick it to the Man! and Zombie Vikings. Their latest game, Fe, has been picked up by Electronic Arts. Expect to see the gorgeous exploration title during EA's press conference where it'll hopefully get a release date.
-
Knights and Bikes
Being developed by former Media Molecule employees, Knights and Bikes is a gorgeous adventure game that'll support co-op play. Players will help the children protagonists out on their adventure for treasure, with the game being a throwback to childhood adventures like The Goonies. Not only did the game impress players enough to be a Kickstarter success, but the game has also been picked up by Double Fine's publishing arm.
-
Lost Ember
In Lost Ember players get to explore a mysterious world where nature has reclaimed the land. In order to piece together what happened, players will have to take control of a wolf and any other animals they come across in order to navigate the beautiful terrain. Bringing together the game's powerful atmosphere is music and sound design by Craig Conner, who was the music director for the Grand Theft Auto series.
-
Manifold Garden
Originally known as Relativity, William Chyr's upcoming first-person puzzle game Manifold Garden has been a heavily hyped title for several years now. To understand why, players only have to take one look at a screenshot. It's Escher-style world is filled with architecture that couldn't exist in reality, and it looks to be an artistic delight.
-
Moonlighter
Moonlighter stars a shopkeeper that grows tired of selling items and decides to go on an adventure. The top-down action RPG features rogue-lite elements that'll help keep the title stay fresh, and was successfully crowdfunded last year. One of its most unique hooks is that players will also have to tend to the character's day job, so they won't be able to focus purely on adventuring.
-
Pyre
Indie or not, few developers can match the track record of Supergiant Games. Both of the studio's previous games, Bastion and Transistor, ended up being fantastic games that left players satisfied. The studio's next game is called Pyre, and is an action RPG that blends sports and high fantasy.
-
Shape of the World
One of the prettiest looking PS4 games, Shape of the World is a first-person exploration game in the vein of Proteus. The world is constantly changing around the player, as they work toward their ultimate goal which is to restore life to the colorful forest they're in. Early demos of the game have proven impressive, and hopefully a release date is announced soon.
-
Wattam
Katamari Damacy and Noby Noby Boy creator Keita Takahashi is best known for creating quirky and cheerful games. His latest title, Wattam, doesn't disappoint in that regard, and might actually be his strangest title yet. The exploration title is being developed by Funomena, and allows players to control a number of different characters and objects.

Where the Water Tastes Like Wine
Where the Water Tastes Like Wine is a collection of short stories that are themed around the Great Depression. Each of the game's 16 characters, which each have a story to tell, were constructed by a different writer. It's up to players to learn their tales while also managing to survive as a hobo.
