SNK Warns Players After Fake Metal Slug Awakening PS5 Announcement Fools Many

SNK has warned players to be careful of fake news on social media after a PS5 and PS4 version of Metal Slug: Awakening was ‘revealed’ on Twitter over the weekend. Announced by an unofficial account, the PlayStation versions of the game don’t actually exist but the post managed to fool many.

Metal Slug: Awakening is not coming to PS5 and PS4

The news appeared via the @MetalSlugAwaken Twitter account and was accompanied by a 35 second video that did seem to be quite convincing. The Twitter account was removed shortly after SNK released its warning about the joke, although whether that was their decision or a forced move by SNK remains to be seen.

Metal Slug: Awakening is a genuine game by Timi Studio but it has only been announced for iOS and Android. Formerly known as Metal Slug Code: J, the 2D run and gun game forsakes the usual pixelated graphics for a more cartoonish appearance. The game has had a soft release in China and is expected to be released worldwide in June.

This isn’t the only Metal Slug game in development at the moment yet that one isn’t coming to PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 either. Leikir Studio’s tactical RPG Metal Slug Tactics is only confirmed for Nintendo Switch and PC for now, so PlayStation players will have to satisfy themselves with the Metal Slug Anthology or Metal Slug XX for now.

In other news, Dying Light 2: Stay Human players can start claiming their free DLC from today after the first part of the Authority Pack was released on the PlayStation Store. Twitch fans can also watch streams to claim Twitch Drops too. Elsewhere, CD Projekt Red is holding a Cyberpunk 2077 Twitch stream tomorrow and they’re expected to announce the release of the native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game.
