Witcher 3 PS5 delayed

The Witcher 3 PS5 Version Delayed After Saber Interactive Removed from Project

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Game of the Year Edition has been delayed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S after CD Projekt Red reclaimed the game from Russian studio Saber Interactive. The next-gen version will now be completed in-house but the game will not meet its previous Q2 release date as a result.

When will The Witcher 3 be released on PS5?

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PS5 does not have a new release date as it has been postponed “until further notice”. However, having learned lessons from Cyberpunk 2077’s rocky launch, the new version is unlikely to be rushed out of the door before it’s ready. As the game will avoid Q2, it will not be released until July 2022 at the earliest. CD Projekt Red is now “evaluating the scope of work to be done” on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions but has promised to “update you as soon as we can”.

The PS5 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was in development at Saber Interactive’s Russian studio. However, since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, CD Projekt has been extremely vocal in its support for the beleaguered country. Not only did they halt sales of The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, and anything from its GOG storefront in Russia and Belarus, they also donated 1 million PLN to Polska Akcja Humanitarna, a Polish humanitarian organization that is currently in Ukraine. Taking the development of their game back from a Russian studio is not surprising given the current situation.

In other news, Sony will be updating their subscription guidelines for Playstation Plus and Playstation Now, even if the latter will disappear soon. An investigation into the auto-renewal practices of Sony and Nintendo has forced the changes to protect consumer rights. Elsewhere, Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi has said he wants to finish playing Horizon Forbidden West before he starts work on creating a new game.
