Developer Team Cherry revealed its popular metroidvania Hollow Knight: Silksong is getting a free expansion. A newly released trailer gives a brief tease, giving Hollow Knight fans something to look forward to in the foreseeable future.
Hollow Knight: Silksong teaser trailer reveals free expansion
As revealed in the teaser trailer below, Sea of Sorrow is the name of the upcoming Hollow Knight: Silksong expansion that will feature new areas, bosses, tools, and more. The nautically themed expansion will be free for existing owners of the platformer and is scheduled to release next year. A specific date has not yet been announced. More details about the expansion will be revealed closer to its release.
Additionally, the original Hollow Knight will be receiving a PS4 update, which will add features and fix bugs. Much of those updates are currently available via the public-beta branches on Steam and GOG. Here is what players can expect from the upcoming Hollow Knight update:
- Added support for 21:9 & 16:10 resolutions.
- Game now pauses while in inventory menus.
- Upgraded to Unity Input System for broader controller support (original input system is still available, if preferred, via Options>Controller>Advanced Settings)
- Added dithering effect, and dithering options, to reduce colour banding.
- Fixed a softlock in City of Tears Grub room.
- Reduced Grey Prince Zote’s stagger bounce height.
- Updated Sly’s Great Slash collider to closer match visual.
- Salubra’s Blessing now deactivates after reaching max Soul.
- Map panning is now smoother
- Various smaller fixes and tweaks.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was released in September 2025. I saw tons of success upon release, including nominations at The Game Awards. Team Cherry thanked its community and expressed their excitement for the future.
“It’s a truly staggering number of players, more than we could have ever expected (enough to crash all of the storefronts!),” reads the post. “Watching the community grow, seeing the amazing art, the mods, the unexpected strategies, and the support between players through the game’s challenges has been hugely rewarding for us here at home. Your continued enthusiasm remains a massive motivator as we work towards expanding the game even further.”
