New PS Plus Classic Game Missing Beloved Feature, Fans Upset

This month’s PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog addition is the fan-favorite PlayStation racing game, Ridge Racer. Although there was excitement for its inclusion in the subscription service’s perk, it seems that enthusiasm has diminished as a beloved feature is missing from the game.

PS Plus Premium game Ridge Racer doesn’t have trophies

This new version of Ridge Racer, which is from Bandai Namco, does not feature trophies. The lack of support has not sat well with fans. On the PS Plus subreddit regarding the announcement of the legendary racer’s inclusion in the Classics Catalog, some players voiced their displeasure with the decision not to include trophies, especially as Hamster’s Arcade Archives version does feature trophy support.

“There’s already an Arcade Archives version of Ridge Racer with trophies. Will truly suck if this one doesn’t have it,” says user scusemoi86.

It isn’t always clear why some of these classic games launch without trophies. However, a November 2025 interview with Implicit Conversions, the company behind many of these ports, shed some light on the matter. Some companies may opt out of adding the feature due to development costs. Overall, the decision to add trophies is the publisher’s choice.

“It’s more the third-party. So, if you happen to notice, a lot of the first-party games launched with trophies automatically,” said Implicit Conversions CEO Bill Litshauer. “Any third-party games, a lot of those did not launch with trophies. And you’re seeing those patches come out now. It’s the third-party deciding ‘okay, we’ll do trophies.’

“I assume in some cases it has been waived, that requirement. But for third-party publishers that have fairly big names, that are big names, that gets waived, and it’s up to them whether they want to add trophies or not.”

Ridge Racer is available to purchase on the PS Store for PS4 and PS5 players who do not subscribe to PS Plus Premium.
