Reinvented Classic Franchise Gets PS4, PS5 Release Date

The 90s were a special time for video game mascots. From Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog to PlayStation’s Crash Bandicoot, there were many amazing mascot platformers playable across multiple platforms. Although not as beloved as the aforementioned icons, one of these mascots miraculously stood the test of time. The yarn-collecting feline Bubsy is ready for his next adventure, Bubsy 4D, and PlayStation gamers won’t have to wait long to play.

When is the Bubsy 4D release date?

Revealed in a brand new trailer, Atari announced Bubsy 4D will release on May 22 for PS4 and PS5. As of this writing, interested PS4 and PS5 players can add the game to their PlayStation Store wishlist. When it is available to preorder, it will cost $19.99.

Here is the recently released trailer, as well as a description of the game, giving players an idea of what to expect from Bubsy 4D:

Bubsy 4D - Official Physical Pre-Order and Release Date Trailer

“Join Bubsy on a new, intergalactic, platforming adventure! Yeah, we couldn’t believe it either. The world’s most infamous, wise-cracking bobcat has returned to 3D with new challenges, new moves, and even more purrsonality – in space! Run, jump, glide, and roll across alien planets, battle robotic sheep, and collect tons and tons of yarn. What could possibly go wrong?”

The Bubsy franchise began in 1993 with the release of Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind for Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. The Bubster saw three other releases in the 90s, with the last being Bubsy 3D in 1996. The series remained dormant for over 20 years until Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back in 2017, which was critically panned. Despite its reception, Bubsy: Paws on Fire! released in 2019. Bubsy 4D not only marks his second return, but it is the first time the character has been in a 3D game since Bubsy 3D.
